This is why I prefer Nintendo. Their game systems update like every 2 months or so and it dont take long unless you didnt update in a long time and nothing happens to your system or your games, even if the games have an update. The downloads dont take long either. Compared to PS3/PS4, they take several hours/days for both downloading and updating but Wii U and 3DS systems take 10-45 minutes depending the file being downloaded. Updates take around 10 minutes unless you havent update in a while which would take 30-45 minutes. Trust me, I had several experiences with my 3dsxl and somebody's Playstation 3. Although Sony make some good games I probably like, Nintendo focused on everybody all ages. Microsoft and Sony stopped doing that for a long time.
