in the old days, you had to do makeup on photo shoots.. tons of it. If it was nudes, you, as the makeup person, had a shit-ton of work to keep everything from looking too glossy, but a little glossy, cover up that imperfection, even this skin tone, etc, etc.

Photoshop has made a lot of that moot these days.
