I knew this cartoon was actually filled with homosexuality because I noticed the way Pearl dances and she seems to like Rose a lot. Yes I seen every episode but i never realized until when Steven's dad told his son about his life with Rose (i think they took that scene out by now), thats when I look back at how the other gems dance and do other things. Not to mention Steven is the only male gem besides Paridot (I could be wrong). Now after seeing this, I'm like "oh god, that's it..." Not like i quit watching the show, I know this made by an artist not from the animators.

Peridot is definitely female, and they do have gender because if they genderless Steven would not be possible. The creator flipped a coin of all males or all females. Also female pronouns are used when referring to them.

/\anon
why did you bring up peridot?
also if you wanna be technical gender is only present within races wich require the variation, I.E. humans, the reason we have gender is because we require vary-ing sex organs where as gems are grown meaning despite using female pronouns, No they are not female as by definition there would have to be a direct male counterpart which would be required for production of later generations, therefore by use of logic and a bit of intellect we can deduce that the gems "Female" appearance isn't an evolutionary choice but rather a tactical choice or personal choice though I imagine if it was popularity "Male" looking gems would be rare as I imagine "Female" appearances are popular in gem society. further more I come to the conclusion that gems originally chose to appear in a "Female" form because they would appear weak before striking rapidly in a state where the people they are attacking are unaware.

There!
you thought you'd argue about fictionally sentient pieces of rock, well woop-dee fucking doo literally anyone with a bit of logic and google can tell why we haven't seen "male" gems, because they lack conventional reproductive organs means they have a single gender, So kindly shut the fuck up if you haven't got any knowledge on what your trying to talk about, You Dolt

Before we get into what gems really are (Sentient crystalline entities that produce a (psionic?)hard light construct around themselves to interact with their surroundings.) Let's talk about gender and it's two original offshoots-

Male
of or denoting the sex that produces small, typically motile gametes, especially spermatozoa, with which a female may be fertilized or inseminated to produce offspring.

Female
of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) that can be fertilized by male gametes.

So like you said;
the reason we have gender is because we require vary-ing sex organs where as gems are grown meaning despite using female pronouns, No they are not female as by definition there would have to be a direct male counterpart which would be required for production of later generations

in other words Gems are created, not birthed(by our conventional means anyway)

So the concepts of gender would not apply to gems like Anonymous >> #219648 said;
Except that gems are genderless

[It's even shown in the cartoon several times that gems don't identify each other by their appearance, but by their gems*]

This means that the reason Gems are given gender-specified pronouns is not because they have genders, but because a species(humans) with genders is reflecting their culture on another species(gems) in an attempt to better understand them.

But we don't just go up to someone or thing(most of the time) and check to see what genitals it has. Most of the time we use visual cues to help us Identify things; gender included.

Now this is where two other words come into play-

Masculine
having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with men, especially strength and aggressiveness.

Feminine
having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with women, especially delicacy and prettiness.

So to us, gems like Jaspers,Rubies and amethysts appear masculine.

While gems like Pearls,Peridots and Sapphires would be considered feminine.

But this begs the question; "Why Do gems even have different appearances?"

and this is where we would branch off into fan theory, so and thing past this point is purely speculation.
